    Dear Editors:

I’d love to submit an article on India as a junction and nexus of Western mathematics. Of course the Indian sub-continent and its historical math threads have been junctions of Asian and Western math. Parsing one set of number theory threads that Arab traders brought from India jump-started base 10 numerals and a rich finite arithmetic will serve as the opening chapter of a 5,000 year story recoded in the western world’s first writing systems.

An analysis of three texts, the 300 BCE Hibeh Papyrus, the 600 AD Akhmim Papyrus and the 1202 AD Liber Abaci, will provide clear number theory threads that were well known to Classical Greeks, Arab traders, Indian mathematicians, Byzantium scholars, and medieval Europeans.

Condensing the proposed article to less than 5,500 words demonstrating that Brhmagupta and Indian astronomers and mathematics before 800 AD will be difficult. Before submitting a draft outline of the proposed article your editorial review, comment and agreement would be greatly appreciated.

    Best Regards,

    Milo Gardner
